Going Wild! - Great book resource, there's a lot for older kids in this book, but it's also a great introductory field guide for some local plants that could be found during a forest walk, complete with colour photos! Some of the activity ideas are great for younger kids, but not independently.

Notice, it's very similar to what you watched on Friday. By grouping in rows and columns, you can either multiply, or divide!

Reading and Responding
This week you will be using Epic Reading .
Read "Beneath Raven Moon"
Tell how Raven and Eagle worked together to bring the moon to the sky. Why did they do it? How did they do it? And how did this help all humans?
When you are out under the moon, how should you be careful (according to the story?)
Include a picture from the story.
Writing:
Take it to the yard (or a walk)
Watch the video in your Epic Mailbox called "All About Insects."
Go outside and find many insects as you can. Draw pictures of them, and label their body parts. Can you name each insect? Name the ones you are able to identify.

Start with review, from yesterday.
Then practice drawing your own arrays to solve equations.

Reading and Responding
Read "Raven Brings the Light" from your mailbox at Epic.
Talk: How is this story different from yesterday's? In which ways is it the same? Is Raven's personality the same in both stories? How is it different in each story?
Respond: What was the problem Raven had to solve in this story? What other characters were in the story? Where was the story setting? When did the story happen (now or olden times?)
Complete the Plot Activity for this story, or yesterday's story. You choose!

Plants: Read along with this book about plants. It's in your mailbox at Epic.
Go outside on a plant hunt! Use this sheet to help you gather your drawings. Look closely at each plant, and add as many details as you can. Label the parts of each plant.

Read "A Salmon for Simon"
Talk: What did Simon want to do, at the start of the story?
What happened, that would have made it perfect to reach his goal?
What new goal did Simon decide upon?
Would you have done the same? Why or why not?
Respond:
Draw a mini-comic, showing the beginning, the most important ideas in the middle, and the ending. Write a short sentence for each frame.

Watch these videos, showing many of the birds we see in lower Vancouver Island. The Vancouver video also shows some exotic birds from other parts of the world.
Also, there is this site Backyard Birds to explore - however, it's more centred around Southern Washington.
After watching the videos, go out to the yard. See how many different kinds of birds you can see. How many can you name? Draw pictures of some of the birds, and describe them. Here is a framework to help you.

Problem solving. Read each story carefully. Draw a picture to help solve the questions. Write an equation (4 ÷ 2 = 2) for each question.

Read Kanahena, it's in your mailbox, at Epic Reading .
Talk: This story is from a different culture than the people from the West Coast (where we live). It has some things that are the same as stories here. Can you name two ways this story is the same as stories from here? What did you learn from the story? The wolf was taught a lesson. What was it?
The wolf pack was also tricked. How were they tricked?
What changed on the body of the terrapin (turtle)?
Respond: Draw a picture from one part of the story. Tell what is happening in the picture.

Writing:
Mapping the backyard (or other outdoor area)
Make a map of your backyard, show where you play, if there is a garden, or any other features your yard might have. Colour it in. Label the main features.
Once you are done, measure your yard in footsteps! How many footsteps long is your yard? How many footsteps wide? Write your answers at the bottom of your map.
