Subtraction Review

- Subtraction, 2 digits no regrouping

Math Game of the week: Salute

Optional Science links, for this week, choose one, two, or all, or none:

1. Video - How do Germs Get into our body?

2. How Many Different Kinds of Animals are there?  (Lesson)

3. (material intensive, you may or may not be able to adapt, according to what you have on hand)  How could you get more birds to a feeder?  (Lesson)

4. From "The Dome at Home"  a biodegradable seedling pot activity

5.Giant Screen Films Vimeo Account - includes Dinosaurs Alive!  and Wild Oceans, for a couple examples.

Grade 2 Language

Reading and Responding

Read/view In the Small, Small Pond and Life in a Pond.

Complete the Act It Out Activity:

1. Write down the name of the animal you will act out, write down 2 - 3 actions it might do.  Example:

A frog hops, jumps and sticks out its tongue to catch flies.

 

If you want some extra challenges, use the "Daily Reading Quest" menu, and try one of the activities.

Writing: 

Two times this week  - choose a book from your independent reading, or from your Scholastic reading, Use this framework to practice your vocabulary.  

Tuesday or Wednesday, you are looking for 5 words that are actions (verbs)

Thursday or Friday, you will look for 5 words that are things (nouns)

Read/view In the Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Schoolbus, and Car Safety.

Talk about things we need to do to stay safe in the car, or when using the street.  Make a poster showing good safety while in the car, or while using the street.

Read/view  Stick and Stone by Beth Ferry and Empathy: I Know How You Feel! by Liz George

Choose one of the "What would you do?" stories from the lesson.  Tell what you would do to make someone feel good in the story.  Use the questions to help your thinking.

Read/view  Inch by Inch, and How Long Is It?

Try using "non standard" items to measure things around the house. 

- how many spoons long is the dining table?

-how many pencils long is your work area (desk, table, etc.)

-how many shoes wide is your bedroom?
