Grade 3 Math

Grouping (Mulitiplication)

Parents: small countable objects, like hard beans, lego pieces, pebbles will help students develop counting strategies for grouping.

 

Watch the video - at the end there are 6 questions, do these on a piece of paper, and see if you're correct! 

Complete this grouping activity

 

Math Game of the week: 

Practice Skip Counting Patterns to get the big truck to the end of each road.   Use a Hundred Chart , to help (ignore the instructions.)

Reading and Responding

Read a chapter from "A Tale of Two Kitties" by Dav Pilkey - think about how he uses pictures, sound blasts and bubbles to tell his story.

Read "Meet Dav Pilkey"

*NOTE  the magazine view on some stories now has a "read aloud" button, so you can hear all the words!

Talk with someone about the interview.  What caused Dav to want to be a writer?  Why does Dav like Dogman so much?

PBS Plum Landing - Some great learning games about natural science -

Mountain Scramble and Seed Racer were my two favourites.  I learned a lot about food chains, and what animals need to survive.  I also learned how seeds get around, to find places to grow!

Toys or Treasures and My Priceless Treasure (stay on this page for the read aloud).

Complete Writing a List

Writing: 

Think about an object that is very valuable to you. Write a short story describing the object.

Use these ideas to help you:

-  How did you get it. 

-  Who gave it to you (or did you buy it, or find it?)

-  Did you do anything special to get it? 

-  What makes it worth a lot to you.

For the rest of the week, read 2 or 3 chapters each day, then write down what happened.  Use the names of people, and what they did, where they went, and reflect on what you have read.  The Book Report is set up to help you.

Writing: 

Watch the video about quotation marks. 

After watching the video, read the examples on "Quotation Marks 1"  and try to use quotation marks on the examples.

Warning:  Number three is tricky!  Make sure all the spoken part is inside the marks, even though it has two commas and a question mark!

When you have finished, you will do an activity to practice this skill.

Code Math - drag the arrows into the white boxes to "code" your robot to find the correct answer to each problem.

Addition Blocks - click 2 or more touching blocks to match the target number on the right.  How many levels can you go!

Watch the video from yesterday, again.  Pay close attention to the marks put on special sentences showing people's speech. ​  Then complete the activity.
